It's been 3 years since we first came to Croatia and we felt in love instantly, so we definitely had to return with our home to spend a few weeks here.
Map to Zagreb and Krk Island
We left Budapest in the morning and stopped in a gas station to take advantage of the welcomed warm sun to have breakfast. Our praise to the sun didn't last long because when we returned to the van we had an invasion of stinky bugs! Seems that parks and houses in Bucharest are invaded by these awful creatures when the cold comes and we weren't spared...and here's when the carnage started.... Luis with insects spray from outside and me from the inside with flip-flops in hands started the mass murder. Toto and Neko were just spectators to our madness, because of their strong smell they couldn't touch them. After one hour of continuous disgust we succeed to clean more or less the home and hit again the road thinking that will not be the last fight with these bugs.
Breakfast in autum
We headed to Zagreb to meet Ivana and Zvone, a great couple that hosted us first time we visited Croatia. Compared to Budapest, streets in Zagreb are not van-friendly, very small, with only one-way traffic and very few parking spots available. Before coming, Ivana recommended us a few parking places near their house, but still, we had to make endless circles before finding a good one. We had a really good time with them and we always enjoy to have someone with whom we share our thoughts and have intense and passionate conversations.
Parking near an artistic squat and terrifying Neko
The second day we woke up with a bit of headache, caused probably from the last night' rakija, but motivated to go straight to the beach. Since last time we did the Dalmatian coast down to Omiš, we decided to go North in Istria region, but first, we did a stop on Krk Island, Croatia's largest island connected to the mainland by a toll bridge. Our first stop was in a 5 stars resort camping near Krk city. We didn't necessarily wanted to spend the night there but most of the exits to the beach are occupied by settlements. However, we didn't regretted our decision, the camping is very pleasant and well equipped and since we arrived in low season, we paid half the price. We met mostly Serbian, Germans and Dutch people over 60 that seems they found their place for the winter... isn't this wonderful?
Camping near Krk city
In the middle of October the weather is still good enough to go at the beach, still the water is quite cold. Keep in mind that most of the Croatian beaches are stony and small, so it might take some time to find a good place to stay if you don't search in advance.
After two nights spent in the camping, we took the road to the south in the direction of Punat and stopped near the nudist camping - Naturist Camp Konobe. Luis had a good feeling about it and he was not mistaken! Although the camping was closed, we parked at the entrance above a magnificent view. To reach the beach we had to descend for about 5-6 minutes crossing the camping that hides in a dense forest. I bet during summer this place has great success, now, we encountered only a few people.
Spectacular view over the islands
We spent one week swimming in the beautiful turquoise sea, making a bit of snorkelling, a lot of beach and took advantage of the camping's barbecue to treat ourselves . Early in the mornings, after my daily exercises and before the sunsets we went for a walk with the cats. In the beginning we were afraid that they will not like to change places so often, but luckily they are young and adapt faster than an adult cat.
Stunning sunsets
We left the island with the certainty that we'll return and continued our way to the Istrian Coast.
